Environmental Policy

We consider ourselves very privileged to live in such a beautiful and remote location and feel passionately about our impact on the environment.   

We're implementing the following measures that will help us a achieve a reduction on our waste, pollution, carbon impact and environmental impact:

  • All the ingredients for the cooked breakfast are sourced locally (lowering food mileage)
  • We use organic and Fair Trade products where no local product is available
  • All coffee, tea and sugar products in the bedrooms are Fair Trade and organic
  • Rooms are cleaned daily with environmentally friendly products
  • We use some low energy light bulbs. It’s our intention to replace all bulbs to low energy as they need changing
  • All kitchen appliances are energy efficient
  • The property is a new build and is extremely well insulated with modern eco friendly materials (roof and walls)
  • All windows are fully double glazed with low e glass
  • Water is heated in an energy efficient boiler
  • The entire property enjoys under floor heating which is zoned to individual rooms and each room has a thermostat
  • Laundry is washed with environmentally friendly products in an energy efficient machine
  • During the warmer months laundry is line dried
  • All supplied toiletries are eco friendly
  • All toilets are fitted with both full and half flush buttons
  • Lights and electrical appliances are switched off when not in use
  • We encourage wildlife into our garden
  • We use locally grown logs on our log burning stoves
  • We recycle all paper and glass waste
  • We reduce paper use by managing our business electronically
  • We reuse empty glass jars and jam jars
  • We use the car as little as possible
  • We raise guest awareness of sustainability by setting example and including our policy in Guest Information packs
  • All vegetable matter is composted with some food waste given to our dog, Baxter!

 Guests are invited to help by:

  • Switching off lights when they are not in use
  • Turning off the television at the mains when not in use
  • Adopting new environmentally friendly measures on their return home

We’ll be starting work on our new garden shortly and will be producing organically grown home produce as soon as possible.

It’s our intention to revisit this policy on at least an annual basis.
