How do we get to Knoydart?
The most direct route is via Mallaig, a nearby port in the Western Highlands. There are regular ferries between Mallaig and Knoydart, and we are very close to the pier. How close are you to the pier and village centre?
We are only a couple of minutes walk from the pier and less than 5 minutes walk from the village centre and pub!
How will we get to and from the pier to the B&B?
If you let us know your expected time of arrival (and departure) we will collect you and your luggage from the pier in our 4x4 jeep.
When is breakfast served?
When would you like breakfast? We usually serve breakfast between 7.30 am and 9.30 am. However we can offer other times by arrangement.
Can you cater for special dietary needs?
Please let us know before you arrive of any special dietary needs.
Do we have to interact with other guests at breakfast?
We are a small business and generally have no more than four guests at any time. If you'd prefer to eat separately please let us know and we'll accommodate you.
Is smoking allowed?
We are non smoking for the comfort and safety of all guests.
Do you accept children?
Unfortunately we are unable to cater for children of 14 years and younger. However we may consider children if you wish to book all the rooms. Please enquire before booking.
Do you accept pets?
We do not offer the facility to accommodate pets. We do have a dog of our own so if you suffer a dog allergy you may want to consider this before booking with us. Please note that our dog is not allowed in the guest rooms or in the kitchen when food is being prepared or served.
What are the check in and check out times?
Check in after 3 pm and check out by 10.15 am. We offer the facility to leave your luggage with us immediately upon arrival and until departure.
What if we need to arrive early or leave late?
Please let us know your travel arrangements and intended time of arrival and departure so that we can be around to meet you. You can leave your luggage at the property if you arrive before the room is ready or if your departure is after the latest check out time.
Will we have our own bathroom?
Yes. We offer a en-suite with the MacRae room and a private bathroom for your exclusive use with the other guest rooms.
Where can we dine out?
The Old Forge & Pottery/Tea Room. We recommend that you book The Old Forge beforehand. Please note that the Pottery & Tea Room is not open in the evenings.
Is there any shops on Knoydart?
Shopping is very limited here. We have the Pottery & Tea Room, Post Office and The Old Forge. Between them they sell some essentials, craft items and sweets.
Is there any item that guests would benefit from bringing?
A torch would be useful from August until May as there are no street lights on Knoydart. Also if you enjoy snacks it is advisable to bring a supply with you.
Do mobile phones work?
Mobile phone reception is extremely limited here. There is some reception further afield depending on your network provider and how far you walk!
